GBD first started working with Whole Foods Markets in the early 2000s, when we began design of the Brewery Blocks located in downtown Portland. GBD reconstructed Brewery Block 1's core and shell in order to make a home for the Whole Foods’ flagship store. Since then, we have worked with Whole Foods on several store renovations, including: tenant improvements, storefront improvements including accessibility, exterior renovations, parking reconfiguration, as well as stormwater and landscape improvements.

Recently, GBD was invited to revisit the flagship store in the Pearl. The remodel included an update to an existing seating area, with LED lighting and new custom seating area furnishings; new refrigeration cases for the produce, meat, seafood and frozen food areas; relocation of the bulk foods and floral areas; décor renovations of the bakery; and replacement of the entire store shelving and displays. Additionally, existing Mezzanine level employee restrooms were converted and renovated as public restrooms to help with long-standing capacity and security challenges for this urban location.

Since the original reconstruction of the flagship store in 2001, our team has designed and renovated seven other locations across the state.
