Completed in late summer 2009, the 20 on Hawthorne is a mixed-use, transit-oriented development. With retail and for-rent apartment housing above parking, the project is a welcomed addition to its SE Portland neighborhood.
This 53,000 sq. foot infill building features three levels of small housing units above ground-level retail, an ecoroof terrace at the second level, high-performance windows, low-flow fixtures, Energy Star appliances, on-site recycling, recycled / local materials, and a below-grade, semi-automated parking system. With a striking concrete podium, the upper levels are balanced by wood construction.
Energy analysis for The 20 on Hawthorne estimates shows that the building is 23 percent more efficient than the national standard. The average tenant’s energy bill is $15 per month. With an original target of LEED Silver, the project achieved a LEED Gold rating.
