In late 2007, after nearly 20 years and several remodels, the Dunn, Carney, Allen, Higgins & Tongue Law Firm made a decision to renew their lease in Pacific Center in downtown Portland. The renovation that followed involved three floors and totaled 38,000 sq. feet.
The firm had several project goals:
- Freshen up and “green” their environment with new sustainable finishes
- Make the space lighter and brighter, while updating the style to something more contemporary and timeless
- Re-program all the common and ancillary spaces to incorporate new ways of working, get rid of inefficiencies, and establish new standards
The most progressive change, which became the signature piece of the remodel, was to combine all the public conference rooms and a central reception point in one area—now known as the Conference Center. GBD designers opened views to the exterior to prioritize the landscaped decks as a focal point.
A neutral palette — accented by artwork, expansive stone floors and translucent glass walls — dramatically transformed the firm’s image and exceeded all goals and expectations.
